Unfortunately, our knowledge of population numbers of Southern African peoples from 1875 - 1910 is limited. With estimates mainly from slave trade which ended around 1890, we can guess the populations in certain parts of Africa during this time. The graphic to the right shows the colonization borders during this time as well. Because territory lines were the main points of dispute between colonists, taking population data was of little importance when there were more immediate matters taking place. However, we can estimate the effects colonization had on people in South Africa.
